Generally used to denote a file that is stored on media that is lower cost than a hard disk. The goal for implementing data archiving is to conserve online storage space. A licensable feature that enables virtual media to be kept on-site while the physical counterpart is taken off-site. The feature provides off-site protection while eliminating the need to perform a second backup (the clone/duplication process) which adds overhead to SAN and servers.
